Gold Metal Gives Back to the Community
The S.M. Wright Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides support and stability to inner-city, underprivileged children and less fortunate families through hunger relief, educational support, health, social service assistance and economic empowerment. Their goal is to move these families from a position of dependency to self-sufficiency and to restore stability to families and the community.
The S.M. Wright Foundation is unique among social services because it carries out its mission on a daily basis in the heart of the South Dallas Community providing hope, encouragement, and assistance to families in need.
The foundation offers two types of service. Community events include the Back-to-School Event (2,500+ previous recipients), the Thanksgiving Day Feast (3,000+ attendees annually), and Christmas in the Park (40,000+ attendees annually). Community program services include the South Dallas Community Food Center, the South Dallas Clothing Center, the South Dallas “Top of the Class” Community Tutoring Center, the Beds for Kids program, the Foundation Furniture Bank, and the Foundation Job Fair.
S.M. Wright II is reverend of the People’s Church. His father, Dr. S.M. Wright was a civil rights activist in the 1960’s, and served as advisor to elected officials, businessmen, and civic leaders. To honor his legacy, then Governor George W. Bush changed the name of Highway 175 in Dallas to the S.M. Wright Freeway in 1995.
Gold Metal is honored to present the S.M. Wright Foundation with a donation towards the Beds for Kids Program. On October 23, 2014, Gold Metal presented Reverend S.M. Wright II with the donation. Gold Metal is privileged in participating in this year’s Beds for Kids Program and looks forward to continued outreach in the community.
