Ferrous vs. Nonferrous Recycling Metals

Ferrous scrap metals and alloys contain iron and include wrought iron, cast iron, mild steel, carbon steel and stainless steel. The iron content in these metals makes them more rigid than nonferrous metals. With the exception of stainless steel and wrought iron, ferrous metals are more prone to rust and corrosion than nonferrous metals.

Nonferrous recycling metal, such as copper, aluminum, and titanium, is used in the manufacture of many heavy construction materials, household items and automotive parts.

If you’re not sure whether your recyclable metal is ferrous or nonferrous, our friendly staff will be happy to help you make the determination.
